CLIENT STORIES: February Updates
There’s nothing we love more than hearing all about the adventures our lovely ladies are venturing on, so here is our monthly update!
“There is something I never tire of, and that’s seeing one of our ladies take her very first solo step. It’s such a privilege to be part of that moment.”
Gilly Bachelor
Costa Rica First Timer
This month one of our wonderful community is heading off to Costa Rica for her very first solo holiday, joining a dedicated solos only escorted tour exploring the very best of this extraordinary country. For a first adventure, a hosted group created purely for solo travellers can be the perfect place to begin. Everyone is travelling independently, so there is no awkwardness and no feeling of being the only one. With expert guidance throughout, carefully paced sightseeing and shared experiences that naturally encourage conversation, it provides reassurance and structure while still allowing space to grow in confidence.

The Two-Timer
Another of our ladies is about to embark on her second escorted journey, this time on a mixed tour through America’s spectacular national parks from San Francisco to Las Vegas. The group will include a blend of solo travellers, couples and friends, which often creates a relaxed and varied social dynamic. Having gained confidence on her first trip, she is now flying independently and we have added extra nights at the beginning and end so she can settle in comfortably. Seeing that quiet confidence develop is exactly why No Stopping Her exists.
Solo Cruisers
We also have ladies cruising. One is sailing with Virgin Voyages, which we often recommend for its adults only atmosphere, flexible dining and sociable spaces. It works particularly well for women who feel comfortable striking up conversations naturally, as there is no formal hosted solos programme. Another is travelling with Silversea Cruises, where smaller ships, exceptional service and a dedicated solos programme with hosted drinks and dinners offer something more structured and refined. Both are excellent choices, simply suited to different personalities and stages of confidence.

As an independent business we are not tied to one operator or cruise line. We recommend what genuinely suits you. It always starts with a proper conversation, often over a cup of tea, and from there we take care of every detail so you can focus on the experience ahead.
You are travelling solo, but you are supported throughout. Get in touch to start planning your solo adventure, we are always happy to help in any way we can! Give us a call on 0204 599 0478 or send us a message
INSPIRATION: Solo River Cruises
Travelling solo can be one of life’s great pleasures, freedom, flexibility, and the chance to do exactly what you want. But for many solo travellers, there’s often a balance to strike: independence without isolation and adventure without unnecessary stress.
That’s exactly why we so often recommend river cruising for solo travellers. It quietly solves many of the challenges that come with travelling alone, while adding a surprising amount of joy along the way.
Here’s why river cruising works so beautifully for solo female travellers.
Naturally Social
River ships are intentionally small, usually carrying between 100 and 190 guests. This creates a warm, friendly atmosphere where connections happen organically, not awkwardly.
You’ll see the same faces at breakfast, on excursions, and in the lounge in the evening. Conversations start naturally, perhaps over a glass of wine after dinner or while waiting to head out on a guided walk, without the need for forced “singles programmes” that many travellers find uncomfortable.
You can be as social as you wish, on your own terms.

You're Never Alone
One of the biggest worries for solo travellers is feeling lonely, especially in unfamiliar destinations. River cruising gently removes that concern.
Daily guided excursions are included, meaning you explore towns, cities, and landmarks with a group and a knowledgeable local guide. There’s shared discovery during the day, easy conversation as you wander cobbled streets or visit museums, and the option to enjoy quiet time back on board in the evenings if that suits you.
It’s companionship without obligation.
No Luggage Stress
Another major issue for solo travellers is luggage management. When you travel alone, getting your belongings from A to B to C can be a hassle. This is where the ease of river cruising is a huge draw.
You unpack once, settle into your cabin, and then wake up in a new destination almost every day. No juggling suitcases on trains, no navigating hotel check-ins alone, no worrying about transfers or directions.
Your floating hotel moves with you, effortlessly.

Safety and Reassurance
River cruising feels wonderfully safe, especially for solo females.
Ships dock right in the heart of towns and cities, excursions are organised and escorted, and there’s always a friendly crew and tour manager on hand. You have independence, but also a reassuring safety net if you need it.
It’s confidence-boosting travel, particularly if you’re venturing out on your own for the first time, or returning to solo travel after a break.
Excellent Value
Most river cruises include accommodation, meals, daily excursions, and often drinks too.
This clarity is refreshing for everyone. There’s no awkward budgeting, no constant reaching for your purse, and no uncertainty about what’s included. Everything is taken care of upfront, making the experience both relaxing and excellent value.

Comfortable Dining
Dining can be one of the most daunting parts of solo travel, but not on a river cruise.
Open seating and communal tables are standard, and hosts are wonderfully adept at introducing guests naturally. You’ll never feel awkward walking into a dining room alone.
Many solo travellers tell us that dinner quickly becomes a highlight of the day.
A Real-Life Example: Gilly's Christmas River Cruise
A perfect example comes from one of our wonderful founders Gilly Bachelor, who recently returned from a Christmas river cruise along the Danube River, with her husband Brian.
She told us that she met so many solo travellers on board, and that each evening she found herself dining with different, interesting people. Conversations flowed easily, friendships formed naturally, and there was none of the pressure that can sometimes come with organised social activities.
“It just happened,” she said. “You sit down, you chat, and suddenly you’re sharing stories over dinner with people you’d only met that morning.”
It perfectly illustrates how easy and organic socialising is on a river cruise.
Is River Cruising for You?
River cruising tends to attract travellers who love history, culture, food, and wine, often thoughtful, open-minded people who enjoy a good conversation.
If you’re curious about the world and enjoy learning as you travel, you’ll find plenty of like-minded company on board.
In short, a river cruise offers independence without isolation, sociability without pressure, and discovery without hassle.
For solo female travellers, it can be one of the most rewarding and confidence-inspiring ways to explore Europe. And once you’ve tried it, it’s easy to see why so many people return again and again.
If you’re considering your next solo adventure, river cruising might just be the perfect place to start.
If you need any support or advice booking your solo river cruise, don’t hesitate to reach out. We are always happy to help in any way we can! Give us a call on 0204 599 0478 or send us a message
CLIENT STORY: Jan. J in Sicily...
Here at No Stopping Her, we LOVE to highlight the wonderful women we have inspired to venture off into the big wide world solo and hear about their adventures once they return!
Hear from Jan Jx who recently returned from a solo tour to Sicily!
A Fascinating First Solo Holiday – Sicily Exceeded All Expectations by Jan Jx
I’ve booked a few trips with Gilly already but had never travelled alone, so this was my first solo holiday and was inspired and encouraged after the Brewood No Stopping Her meet-up at Gilly’s office in August.
There are so many options for solo travel, and Gilly streamlined the process and made some top recommendations – I couldn’t have asked for a better start!
I’ve just returned from the 8 Day Solo Sicily tour and what an incredible introduction to this beautiful island it was!
From the moment I set off, things were easy – I really appreciated being able to fly from my local regional airport, and being met on arrival in Catania was such a reassuring touch. Everything was smoothly organised and wonderfully hosted by Simone, who was with us throughout the tour. She was phenomenal – so lovely, well-informed, and great at making sure no one was ever left out.

Tour Highlights
The itinerary was packed with variety. Some of my standout moments included:
- Ascending Mount Etna by cable car – such a surreal landscape and a real “bucket list” moment!
- Taormina’s Greco-Roman theatre perched above the sea – the views were breathtaking.
- Villa del Casale at Piazza Armerina, filled with the most incredible Roman mosaics I’ve ever seen.
- Palermo’s street food experience – trying authentic Sicilian snacks in a local café was a brilliant cultural touch.
- The impressive Monreale Cathedral with its dazzling golden mosaics.
- A day in Cefalù – a charming seaside town with a cathedral to rival any in Italy.
There was plenty included, but I also chose to do two optional excursions – Syracuse and The Valley of the Temples – both excellent value and absolutely worth adding on. I was pleasantly surprised that lunch was included on these tours, and it was such a lovely sit-down experience. It gave us time to really chat and enjoy each other’s company, which was a nice contrast to the hotel buffets.
Group & Hotels
There were around 24 of us, a real mix of ages, and unusually there were seven men in the group, which made for a fun balance. Everyone got on really well and I never once felt alone.
Both hotels were of a good standard, and the food was very good throughout. The second hotel was my favourite – I could happily have stayed longer! I liked this tour as we had just two hotels which meant less packing and unpacking!
The Unplanned Ending
The only hiccup was on the journey home – due to windshear, our flight was delayed by over 24 hours. Not ideal, of course, but the airline put us up locally and I was with five others from the tour (who I’d just spent the week with), so it actually turned into more of an extended holiday than a disaster. We just relaxed, chatted, and made the best of it!
This was my first solo holiday and it won’t be my last – I’m already talking to Gilly about a tour of the Silk Road and a Balkan cruise.

PARTNERS: Riviera Travel Caters to Solos
Finally: A River Cruise Ship Just for Solo Travellers (No Single Supplement Sticker Shock!)
If you've ever dreamed of gliding past medieval castles on the Danube or watching sunrise over the Mekong River, but baulked at paying nearly double for the privilege of travelling solo, I have news that might just change your travel plans for 2027.
Riviera Travel has just announced the world's first river cruise ship operating exclusively for solo travellers. An entire ship where you won't be the only one dining alone, and where the dreaded single supplement won't break the bank.
The George Eliot: What Makes It Different
The ship launches its solo-only programme in June 2027. While it can accommodate 140 passengers normally, during solo sailings it carries just 70 guests. Each solo traveller gets their own cabin, with no roommate assignments.
Here's the game-changer: the single supplement will typically be around £150 for a week's cruise. Not per night. For the entire week. When you compare that to usual cruise penalties, this is genuinely ground-breaking.
Where can you go?
Three eight-day cruise options start from £2,449 per person on the Danube, Rhine, or Moselle. For those wanting more time, three 15-day itineraries start from £5,599.
Beyond Europe: The Mekong
For those ready to venture further afield, Riviera is launching the Riviera Alba on the Mekong River. This boutique ship accommodates just 50 guests in 25 suites, each with its own balcony.
The flagship 16-day Vietnam, Cambodia, and Mekong River cruise starts from £4,799, with regional departure options available.
Why This Matters
Here's what caught our attention: 13% of Riviera's business already comes from solo travellers, and demand keeps growing. When a major operator dedicates an entire ship to solo travellers with reasonable supplements, it signals a real shift in how the industry views independent travellers.
Beyond the financial advantages, there's the social dynamic. On a ship full of independent travellers, you're surrounded by people who chose adventure over comfort, who understand that traveling solo doesn't mean you want to be lonely. You might find yourself making dinner plans with a group, or reading on your balcony in peace. The choice is yours.
Is This Right for You?
A river cruise offers structured itineraries and organised excursions rather than complete freedom to explore off the beaten path. But if logistics feel overwhelming, or you want the security of organised travel while maintaining independence, this could be exactly what you've been waiting for.
For too long, solo travellers have been charged premium prices for making an independent choice. Riviera's decision to dedicate an entire ship to solo guests feels like the recognition we've deserved all along.
If you're interested in a solo cruise, let us know! With work with 300+ suppliers and can book your perfect trip, just give us a call on 0204 599 0478 or send us a message.

IN THE NEWS: Solo Travel
Last month, Gilly Bachelor had the incredible honour of joining The Independent Travel Podcast alongside Simon Calder, one of the UK’s most respected travel journalists, to talk about the joys and challenges of travelling solo — particularly for women. Gilly reflects:
“For me, this was such a proud moment. Over the years, I’ve spoken to so many women who want to travel but feel held back by confidence, expectations from others, or the simple challenge of finding a travel partner whose diary and budget align. Too often, the trip doesn’t happen — and that sense of adventure stays on the shelf.”
Different Perspectives, Shared Passion
Simon Calder, Senior Travel Editor at The Independent, has been reporting on travel trends, industry developments, and the evolving ways we explore the world for decades. But for this podcast, he wanted to go beyond industry news to hear from a travel professional on the front lines.
Gilly explains:
“We’re the ones hearing the doubts, the fears, the excitement — and we’re helping women turn that first idea into a real trip.”
The conversation between journalist and travel professional provided a rich and nuanced view of solo female travel, highlighting not just the statistics, but the personal stories behind every decision to travel alone.
You can listen to the full episode here: The Independent Travel Podcast – Going Solo.

Perfect Timing
The podcast aired in the same week that Gilly and Katrina Lowes, co-founders of No Stopping Her, hosted Brewood’s very first event under their new series designed to inspire and support women to travel solo. From seasoned adventurers to women rebuilding their lives after divorce or bereavement, the gatherings provide a safe, encouraging space to share stories, gain practical tips, and realise that wanting to go it alone is both normal and empowering.
About Simon Calder
Often called “the nation’s travel guru,” Simon Calder is known for his no-nonsense advice, deep industry knowledge, and genuine passion for helping travellers make the most of their journeys. Regularly appearing on BBC Breakfast, The One Show, and countless radio programs, his podcast brings together expert voices and lived experiences to explore the ever-changing world of travel.
Looking Ahead
Being invited onto Simon’s podcast was not only a personal milestone for Gilly but also a reminder of why No Stopping Her exists. “Solo travel isn’t just an abstract trend to analyse; it’s a very real, very personal choice that women are grappling with every day,” she said.
By opening up these conversations — whether through national media or around the table at a community meet-up — Gilly and her team hope more women will feel ready to take that first solo adventure.
Here’s to more stories, more first steps, and more women declaring: There’s no stopping me.

Our First No Stopping Her Meet-Up in Brewood
Last month, on 28th August 2025, we hosted Brewood’s very first No Stopping Her women solo travel meet-up — and what a night it was!
Twenty amazing women came together, from seasoned solo travellers to those looking to take their very first steps into travelling alone. Many had experienced life-changing moments — from divorce to the loss of a husband — and were ready to start a new chapter through the freedom of solo travel.
Why We Started No Stopping Her
The evening began with co-founders Gilly Bachelor and Katrina Lowes explaining the inspiration behind No Stopping Her. Gilly shared how many women came to her to book a holiday but ended up waiting for friends or family to join them. Too often, those plans never came together, and precious years were lost at home instead of exploring the world. Katrina, who has travelled solo for over 30 years, described how she sometimes found herself on trips she didn’t want to take, or caring for loved ones rather than doing something just for herself. For her, solo travel became a gift — the freedom to go where she wanted, when she wanted.
What’s Stopping Women Travelling Solo?
The evening wasn’t about selling holidays, but about opening an honest conversation: what holds women back from travelling alone? For many, the answer was confidence. Katrina offered practical, reassuring advice — and together with the group, some clear takeaways emerged:
-
Start small – even a weekend away or a short group trip can build confidence.
-
Choose comfort – pick familiar destinations or English-speaking places to make things easier.
-
Join others – group trips with like-minded women offer both support and shared experiences.
-
Tune out the “aren’t you brave” comments – focus on the excitement, not the fear.
-
Say yes to surprises – often the most unexpected moments become the best stories.
Shared Wisdom & Surprising Insights
One of the best parts of the evening was the sharing of lived experience. Seasoned solo travellers passed on practical advice to first-timers — from where to go, to how to manage those first nerves.
And there were some surprises too. A few women spoke about their love of hostels, enjoying the social side and even sharing a room with someone they’d never met before. It was eye-opening for many in the room.
The “Aren’t You Brave” Factor
Several women shared how friends or family respond when they say they’re travelling solo: “Aren’t you brave?” or “Is it safe?”
Katrina offered great tips on how to handle those comments — and how to travel safely without letting fear hold you back.
There was also plenty of laughter around being “adopted” by couples on holiday. As one guest put it:
“Sometimes it’s lovely — other times you just want to read your book in peace!”
A Community That Lifts Each Other Up
What made the evening so special was the support in the room. Women who had never met before connected instantly, laughed together, and left feeling more confident about saying yes to a solo adventure.
This is exactly why we started No Stopping Her: to build a community where women can share their stories, lift each other up, and discover the joy of travelling on their own terms.
And this was just the beginning — we can’t wait to host more meet-ups and watch this inspiring community grow.
Because when it comes to solo travel, there really is no stopping her!
