Last month, on 28th August 2025, we hosted Brewood’s very first No Stopping Her women solo travel meet-up — and what a night it was!
Twenty amazing women came together, from seasoned solo travellers to those looking to take their very first steps into travelling alone. Many had experienced life-changing moments — from divorce to the loss of a husband — and were ready to start a new chapter through the freedom of solo travel.
Why We Started No Stopping Her
The evening began with co-founders Gilly Bachelor and Katrina Lowes explaining the inspiration behind No Stopping Her. Gilly shared how many women came to her to book a holiday but ended up waiting for friends or family to join them. Too often, those plans never came together, and precious years were lost at home instead of exploring the world. Katrina, who has travelled solo for over 30 years, described how she sometimes found herself on trips she didn’t want to take, or caring for loved ones rather than doing something just for herself. For her, solo travel became a gift — the freedom to go where she wanted, when she wanted.
What’s Stopping Women Travelling Solo?
The evening wasn’t about selling holidays, but about opening an honest conversation: what holds women back from travelling alone? For many, the answer was confidence. Katrina offered practical, reassuring advice — and together with the group, some clear takeaways emerged:
-
Start small – even a weekend away or a short group trip can build confidence.
-
Choose comfort – pick familiar destinations or English-speaking places to make things easier.
-
Join others – group trips with like-minded women offer both support and shared experiences.
-
Tune out the “aren’t you brave” comments – focus on the excitement, not the fear.
-
Say yes to surprises – often the most unexpected moments become the best stories.
Shared Wisdom & Surprising Insights
One of the best parts of the evening was the sharing of lived experience. Seasoned solo travellers passed on practical advice to first-timers — from where to go, to how to manage those first nerves.
And there were some surprises too. A few women spoke about their love of hostels, enjoying the social side and even sharing a room with someone they’d never met before. It was eye-opening for many in the room.
The “Aren’t You Brave” Factor
Several women shared how friends or family respond when they say they’re travelling solo: “Aren’t you brave?” or “Is it safe?”
Katrina offered great tips on how to handle those comments — and how to travel safely without letting fear hold you back.
There was also plenty of laughter around being “adopted” by couples on holiday. As one guest put it:
“Sometimes it’s lovely — other times you just want to read your book in peace!”
A Community That Lifts Each Other Up
What made the evening so special was the support in the room. Women who had never met before connected instantly, laughed together, and left feeling more confident about saying yes to a solo adventure.
This is exactly why we started No Stopping Her: to build a community where women can share their stories, lift each other up, and discover the joy of travelling on their own terms.
And this was just the beginning — we can’t wait to host more meet-ups and watch this inspiring community grow.
Because when it comes to solo travel, there really is no stopping her!
